Quiet: Thou Shall Not Pass

But we did pass.
In quiet.
With good intent.
Treading lightly, thinking "how cool is this?"
We found this place empty
Blanketed, snow made it so
Snow staying while city long left
With bated breath to find
-what?
Nothing
Everything, I would think
that is contained in a feeling
Would you trespass?
I would not. what is so quiet that says
"Do not come if you intent mischief"

I don't believe it
20% of Americans don't
What could be said of nothing but nothing
The cruciform death splayed in place
Pews, long abandoned and long removed
a place suggested, here they sat--and here they prayed
Orange sulfate through the windows (see if you can)
a pit, cavernous, but inviting
"Come hither, I mean no harm, if you do not"
And we didn't

Knee deep white would hinder
If laws would not, and could not
Towers which once held bells raised
Against what?
Nothing now, but the memory
Do you remember how these walls once meant to you?
A world
A life
Pillars against-

iIdon't believe a word of this
nothing in that Book, not in ghosts
Nor anything after, except impressions
When my grandfather goes he will live in memory
(he told me so)
But here, it's so quiet

Wait

Listen

Did you come here?
Like we?
meaning nothing but curiosity?
A new kind of worship, seeing old spaces, knowing emptiness is full of meaning
Depart as friends, believing or not, that meaning lived here
and never left
